No, the analyzer is not radioactive. However the analyzer does have a neutron source. We get neutrons from CF-252, as does nearly every other PGNA analyzer in the world. This neutron source is very effectively shielded, so that there are no special safety requirements for those who work around the analyzer.
SABIA will help you every through step of the licensing process, and our trained technicians can take care of installation, monitoring, and eventual disposal of old sources.
Here are a few facts to put things into perspective:
- 40 hours adjacent to the analyzer equals one chest x-ray at the doctor’s office
- Radiation levels are so low that dosimetry is not necessary for plant personnel
- A worker would have to spend 200 hours within one meter of the analyzer to equal annual US federal limit
- SABIA will train plant personnel in radiation safety
